Ben Sheehy became interested in track cars in 1999 after he purchased his first Corvette. When he took it to Rocky Mountain Corvettes for an upgrade, the staff introduced him to “track days.” These track days are a way to sports car owners to push their cars to their limits in a safe, controlled environment rather than on public streets where they can endanger others.
Track days appealed to Ben because they offered him the chance to experience the full performance of his vehicle and his driving ability with very minimal risk.
“They are a great way to ‘get it out of your system,’” Sheehy said. “You find yourself so disinclined to speed in your car on a public road once you have experienced the freedom that a racetrack offers.”
Ben noted that track days also teach you to respect what these vehicles are capable of accomplishing – something that is often FAR beyond what Ben is capable of controlling as a driver or pilot.
Ben has owned three Corvettes: two 1999 Corvette Coupe’s (one black, one white) and a 1994 Corvette Convertible (white with red interior). Ben also owns a 2000 Porsche 911 Cabriolet. He has taken all of them to track days to test their limits.
The Lamborghini Aventador, however, is Ben’s favorite care that he has ever driven on a racetrack.
“While not the smoothest or the fastest around the course for me, the rarity of the car and the opportunity to drive a 700 horsepower car on a track was unforgettable,” Sheehy said.
Ben Sheehy has attended track days at the following locations:
- Hastings, Nebraska
- High Plains Raceway – Denver, CO
- Pikes Peak Raceway
- Exotics Racing – Las Vegas, NV
